Captain Andy Cobun

Founder, USCG 100-ton Master Captain, & ASA Instructor

“Let’s get out there, have some fun, and learn a thing or two along the way.”

Andy was first introduced to sailing at the age of thirteen, during his first of many family sailing charters in the British Virgin Islands. During these annual trips, Andy quickly grew to love sailing, and it evolved into a deep passion. After school, Andy moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he worked at a surf shop – continuing to foster his love for the water. His thoughts of sailing continued, and with accumulated sea time and experience, Andy became a USCG Captain. His next steps led him back to the BVI, where he worked for SeaTrek BVI, a summer camp for high school students. For two summers, he captained three-week consecutive voyages, curating an impactful and unforgettable summer experience for all students on board. During each session, while leaning on his passion for and experience in environmental science, the ocean, and sailing, Andy taught his students how to sail and scuba dive, and mentored them through their marine ecology research projects. SeaTrek was fulfilling and solidified Andy’s career path - on the water. After seasons with SeaTrek, he moved back to Maryland and began teaching at the Annapolis Sailing School. During this time, Andy’s passion for sailing grew deeper - he enjoyed teaching students of different backgrounds, experience levels, and ages, creating connections and helping each student to feel more comfortable and confident on the water.

Andy currently holds a USCG 100-ton Master Captain’s license, captains charters and deliveries, and teaches private lessons along the East Coast, and in the Chesapeake Bay and Virgin Islands. As a part of the Go Sail team, Andy continues to thrive on sharing his experience and knowledge with students to facilitate their growth and appreciation for sailing.
