Julie Hughes

Dir. Operations & First Mate

Sailing – using the wind for sustainable transport, travel, and adventure has fascinated Julie since she was a teen. In her early thirties, during holiday from her corporate career path of twelve years, Julie took ASA 101 in Annapolis, Maryland. She was humbled and motivated by what she learned and desired to further develop her sailing skills. During the following year, Julie made time to visit close friends who have lived in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Central and South America. While in Australia, Julie lived aboard an Adams 45’ and short-hand sailed in the Morton Bay region and off the coast of Queensland. She enjoyed gaining more experience, but also realized how much more there was to learn. After returning to the United States and completing ASA 103 and 104, she and Captain Andy teamed up to complete deliveries and host charters together, during which she has become a competent sailor.

Since she began sailing in 2022, Julie has logged approximately 3,000 miles in the Caribbean, the Chesapeake Bay, and along the eastern coast of Queensland and the United States. In addition to 101, 103, and 104, Julie has also completed ASA 114 and STCW Basic Training. She enjoys sharing on-the-water experiences with guests, assisting in teaching, and helping to curate memorable adventures. Julie thrives on connection, collaboration, and constructive learning, and hopes to connect with you on the water!
